Quonset Hut

Boy Scout Camp to Guest House

Originally a sleeping quarters at a boy scout camp in Ohio Creek, this quonset hut now sits on a 40-acre parcel above above Crested Butte South. The homeowners had a clear vision for turning it into an office and guest house next to their barn.

Making it a comfortable place to stay and shoring it up for the future meant taking the hut apart and putting it back together, more beautiful and stronger than before. It was a fun creative challenge and satisfying to reuse so many of the materials. (It was also entertaining. When Pete and the crew took the hut apart, they found an abundance of four-inch, plastic pocket combs tucked above the windows—a boy scout camp tradition, perhaps.)
